Long Shore and Crane
This is one of the most classic walks in Gdańsk: along the Motława River, between historic buildings, restaurants, and a view of the old port. The Crane is one of the city’s symbols, but even if you don’t plan to visit the museum, it’s worth seeing it from the outside and then continuing towards Long Market, Granary Island, or Ołowianka. St. Mary’s Basilica

A large, austere, and very characteristic landmark of the Main City. St. Mary’s Basilica is called the biggest brick church in Europe. If you have the energy for the stairs, climbing the tower offers one of the best views of the center of Gdańsk. (St. Mary’s Basilica)

Museum of the Second World War

This is not a quick “half-hour” attraction. The museum is large, thematically intense, and it’s best to plan more time for it. The main exhibition covers over 6000 m² and presents the war not only through dates and battles but also through the lives of ordinary people. (Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk)

Granary Island and Ołowianka

A good part of the city for a walk after sightseeing. There are many restaurants, views of the Motława River, and places where you can simply sit by the water. This is a more modern face of Gdańsk, but it pairs well with a walk through the historic center. (Gdańsk - official city portal)

European Solidarity Centre

Worth visiting if you are interested in recent history, the Gdańsk Shipyard, and events that had a real impact on Poland and Europe. This place is more for calm exploration than quick visits. The building also houses a space for children — currently, the ESC describes it as the Little Shipbuilders’ Room for children aged 2–8. (European Solidarity Centre)


Hevelianum A good place for a day with children, especially when the weather does not encourage going to the beach. There are exhibitions, learning through experiences, and an area on Gradowa Hill, from where you can also see the city panorama. (Hevelianum)

Gdańsk Zoo in Oliwa

A reliable choice for a family walk, but it’s worth remembering that it is a large area, so it’s best to plan a visit without rush. The Zoo states it covers about 125 hectares and is home to many species of animals from various parts of the world. (Gdańsk Zoo)

ESC — space for children

If you are visiting the European Solidarity Centre with younger children, it’s worth checking the current information about the family area. ESC describes the Little Shipbuilders’ Room as a place for children aged 2–8 and their guardians. (European Solidarity Centre)

A walk instead of an overloaded plan

Gdańsk can tire you out, especially in summer and with children. It’s better to choose 1–2 main places and leave the rest for a walk: Motława, Long Market, Granary Island, Ołowianka, or the Shipyard area. From Sopot, the easiest way is to check the SKM (Fast Urban Railway) connection, because in the season, car and parking in the center of Gdańsk are not always the best idea. (SKM Tricity)
